About the Museum
Collection Information
What is meant by the term "permanent collections"?
The permanent collections of the Kemper Art Museum are made up of the works of art that the Museum actually owns. (It does not include works in special exhibitions or works temporarily on loan to the Museum.) The permanent collections include over 3,500 objects, but only a small selection of these works can be on display at any given time. Collections are rotated (that is, some objects are put away so that others can be shown) in the Saligman Family Atrium and Bernoudy Permanent Collection Gallery, but there are always many works in storage.
What is in the Museum's permanent collections?
one of the finest university collections in the United States, the Museum contains strong holdings of 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century European and American paintings, sculptures, prints, installations, and photograph. The collection also includes some Egyptian and Greek antiquities and more than one hundred Old Master prints. The collection can be searched online in the Collections section.
What are the current special exhibitions at the Museum?
Please see our Exhibitions page.
Rental Events
Can my group host a party at the Museum?
Yes. The Kemper Art Museum welcomes rental events from both on and off campus; please see the Event Rentals page for details.
